AaVI Project Types
- Wells
Our most fundamental project is the introduction and implementation of clean water in our adopted villages. Without clean water, many diseases and parasites cannot be cured permanently. Each adopted village receives a well that provides clean water for approximately 500 people. Water projects help reduce death and disease and free countless hours previously devoted to transporting water. Potable water for villages in the past has reduced infant mortality from water-borne diseases to zero.
- Wheelchairs
Giving mobility to someone is a life changing experience, not only for the individual receiving a wheelchair, but for their caregivers as well. Wheelchairs give immobile people freedom and a chance to become active in their community.
- Sanitary Facilities
Sanitary facilities are placed in either a community center or school in each village. These facilities provide sinks, showers and toilets to help the villagers maintain healthy hygiene standards.
- Hygiene and Dental Education
Many communities lack the basic knowledge needed to maintain healthy bodies. Education in hygiene includes lessons about personal cleanliness, food preparation, using sanitary facilities and basic dental education. During these lessons each student receives a hygiene kit that includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, antibacterial wipes, shampoo, hand sanitizer, and a comb.
- Medical and Construction
Medical and construction expeditions are a cornerstone of our work at Adopt-a-Village International. We bring basic amenities to people around the world who do not have access to emergency medical attention, long-term health care, safe shelter and clean water. AaVI medical trips focus on setting up medical, vision and dental clinics to treat local people; setting up permanent facilities for medical care; and training local people as healthcare workers. Construction trips provide communities in need with facilities that help improve health, education and overall standard of living. Our volunteers come from all age groups, professional backgrounds and walks of life to join in these efforts.
- Supplies
Many third world communities have received Adopt-a-Village International shipments of medicine, medical supplies, food and school supplies. We collect and sort the supplies at our warehouse in Colorado Springs, then distribute them to communities in need.
The most commonly needed supplies include:
- Medical equipment
- Medicines
- Vitamins
- Clothing
- School supplies such as notebooks and pencils
- Small toys
- New Mother Kits
- Hygiene Kit
